The following activities related with irrigation are performed by the Water Resources Division Harda in Harda District.

(1)              Irrigation – Irrigation facility in Harda District is mainly provided by Tawa canal system of Tawa Dam situated near Ranipur village in Hoshangabad District. An area of 84400 Hectares comes under command of tawa canal system it includes 46168 ha. area of Harda Tahsil,  31928 ha. area of Timarni Tehsil and 6304 ha. area of Khirkiya Tehsil of District Harda. Out of this command area about 74000 hectares agricultural land is being irrigated at present through Tawa canal system.

The jurisdiction of Water  Resources Division Harda comprises of Tawa left bank main canal system from ch. 2881 to ch. 4283.6 (tail) and its Handia Branch Canal System from k.m. o to 55.5 k.m. which takes off at ch. 3008 of Tawa L.B.M.C. The  both canal system with their Nos. of distributaries, minors and sub-minors forms a vast network of total length 928.33 k.m. to facilitate 74000 hectares irrigation of agricultural land of 252 Nos. villages of the 3 Nos. Tehsil under the District.

The designed discharge required at ch. 3008 of Tawa L.M.B.C. is 1750 cusecs but study of discharge so for received in past years reveals that an average discharge of the tune 1500 to 1550 cusecs is made available at ch. 3008 by authorities of irrigation division of upper reach i.e. Tawa canal Division Seonimalwa. This deficiency of incoming discharge (about 200 to 250 cusecs) badly affects irrigation of about 25 Nos. villages situated at tail most ends of canal system. Such crises creates a great dissatisfaction & anger among the cultivators of these villages which ultimately develops situation of law and order.

For handling the situation to some extent osrabandi programme is also implemented on canal system for assuring effective water regulation in canal system & sufficient availability of irrigation water to tail enders. In such canal regulation process co-operation of local administration is expected time to time.

      During last Rabi season (2007-08) 73756 hectare irrigation done against Alan area of 73000 hectare.
